Special Session 7

Smart Sensing and IoT for Precision Agriculture

SESSION SYNOPSIS

Nowadays when the global population is growing by more than 80 million a year reported studies are predicting an increasing pressure on the planet's natural resources including food resources. The situation is going worst when unpredictable meteorologic events are running up in the context of great climate changes related to the global effect of anthropogenic greenhouse emissions. In this context precision agriculture (PA) combines technologies and practices to optimize agricultural production through specific farm management are considered. The smart sensors and IoT materialize in-situ soil, air and water monitoring while remote technologies such multispectral camera mounted in drones provide additional data that can be used for yield crops monitoring, watering optimization. The special session invites researchers from academia and industry to share their experiences trough the original scientific articles that are covering smart sensing area for PA including electrical and optical solutions as so as elements about applied AI. Topics of wireless sensor networks and embedded AI are also considered.
